I can't help it. He is so adorable when he sleeps. Awake or napping the camera loves Cloud.

Picture of the Week Part 43: Lightning Dreams

Oct. 11th, 2011 | 03:38 pm

I have been slowly going through my lightning snap shots (the ones I grabbed straight from the videos I captured) and while tweaking them into Low-Fi art pieces I ended up taking the editing a whole other direction. I created a couple abstract pieces that invoked in me the feeling of a dream. I sometimes find it hard to describe the luminescent quality that is much of my dream world and looking at these brought back a flood of nostalgia. Though most of my dreams are dark and filled with the bizarre, there are still moments of beauty in them that create intense longing within me. These images captured the essence of those emotions for me.

Picture of the Week Part 41: The Skies In My Dreams

Oct. 4th, 2011 | 05:26 pm

The sunsets have been amazing the last few days. Yesterday the sunset was so beautiful, so achingly wonderful to my eyes I found I could not stop starting at it. With each second the sun slipped further away changing the spectrum of color like a kaleidoscopic of wonder.

Picture of the Week Part 40: A Knack Develops

Sep. 12th, 2011 | 11:07 pm

I did much better on my second round of color processing! Though I spent the better part of the day waiting to develop one roll I can not say the day was a waste. I got to spend time with such creative and talented people. We talked about what our favorite 'weapons' of choice were (currently mine is the Canon AL-1), we talked about Bansky, and great abandoned building locations. I find Film Developing Days with the DMS guys to be very peaceful. And calming. I mean I even ride the TRAIN to hang out with these guys on FDD and for those that don't know I prefer NOT getting on DART if I can help it.

After the machine 'ate' two of my rolls and effectively ruined most of the images with weird color distortions, dark and light parts due to poor chemical immersion, and causing crimped parts where the images cuts off, I decided it is time I start investing in some color processing kits. It's great to get with the Steves, Erin, and Guy but I really hate using up all their chemicals to develop my stuff and while I usually only do a roll or two I want to start upping my processing output so I can cut the lab out completely.

Picture of the Week Part 39: In Lesser Dreams

Sep. 12th, 2011 | 10:53 pm

I'm behind, yet again. It's a never ending fight. Struggle ahead, get bogged down, get behind, struggle ahead. I thought that I'd have more time to commit to creative endeavors now that I am working from home, but I find the time I would have spent on this blog while at work *ahem* I use to try and keep myself focused on actually get work done from home. Who knew the office was such a needed thing?

Anyways, a lot to update on, to spill out, to confess, but I'll leave all that for another day (soon) and just post this lovely snapshot of Michelle. I didn't get to do much of a photoshoot with her while she was here because of crazy schedules and a TON of other stuff that had to get done instead, so I grabbed a few shots at the Rose Cathedral in Fort Worth at Josh's wedding.

This place was beautiful and if it weren't for the fact it's an hour drive from my apartment I might actually have considered it for my wedding. It had just the right feel. Intimate, old world, romantic, and gorgeous. That being said it did spur a Wedding Planning Frenzy in me. It is time I started cracking down on my Big Day Details.

Crap, getting carried away again...

So about this shot. So much of me wants to move towards more finished and professional looking pieces as my PotW but there is so much fun to be hand in the palm of your hand! A cell phone can be such a creative outlet and use it to the max I do. Chances are if there is a picture editing app/camera feature I've used it at least once on my phone. I use them by themselves, all together, or in small groupings till I get just the image I am looking for. I can make even the dullest image come alive with my phone (not that this is a dull image in the least!)

Without further ado...I give you 'In Lesser Dreams':

Picture of the Week Part 38: Saying Farewell

Aug. 25th, 2011 | 02:13 pm

My time in downtown draws to a close. Once before I thought I would be leaving this place only to find out that my new job had me working only one building over from my previous one. I was excited to be able to continue working in the city. So much to get out during your lunch break and see, so many fascinating places to explore and new foods to try. After Tuesday next week I will no longer be coming downtown. I am in a kind of limbo right now emotionally. I know I will miss these guys more than anything, but I'll miss the city too. I wonder if I'll ever come back here again for a job.

Here's to group lunches, downtown beauty, State Fair parades, bomb scares, walks to Angry Dogs, crazy thunderstorms, terrible parking, the underground, Chef Wangs, Noodle Nexus, potstickers, Thanksgiving Square, the West End, the fist bump, cemetaries, scary elevators, laughter, socks as packing materials, more laughter, random bras, freebie days, trees that bloom white flowers in spring, the Adolphus, all the pigeons, the stargate, photography walks, insane deployment deadlines, River Dancing Jimmy Doan, and the people who made this place somewhere I enjoyed being.

"You guys are how I know this isn't hell."

Picture of the Week Part 37: Cut and Dry

Aug. 22nd, 2011 | 01:27 pm

Late, late, late again. I've been working with so many film cameras that fairly soon I will be over flooded with images to scan. However, in the interum that means I've got nothing to show for my time. I've got rolls in the 360, the Holga, the Canon AL-1 (which I just finished), in the Canon Rebel, in the Elco, and one in the Argus that all need to be finshed off. The heat is also making it hard for me to get out and do anything on top of the fact that I'm working most weekends at the space and hosting a GURPS campaign in my apartment. The ideas are piling up with no outlet. Come on, can we get a break?? I am beyond sick of triple digit weather.
